After a few weeks away from racing for motor and other repairs the Shelton Racing number 16 returned to action Saturday at Clarksville. Chris unloaded a fast racecar with a solid setup as evidenced by great hotlaps. Qualifying third fastest put Chris inside the 2d row for the quick-six dash. Making a quick pass of the front running Jeff Walston after Walston and Caleb Ashby made contact, Chris took the lead. A later spin by Walston caused the caution flag to wave. Leading the field for a double file restart after the caution, Chris held off Caleb Ashby for the remainder of the laps and was the first to see the checkers at the end of the dash. The dash win was not without mishap as the right rear tire was flat when Chris returned to the pits.
Forced to bolt on a tire with several races and heat cycles on the right rear Chris stayed busy waiting for the call to move to staging.
With the dash win, Chris led the field of super-late models to the green for the feature race. Battling side by side with Ashby for the lead for the first few laps, Chris wasn’t able to run the line he wanted. Ashby had about a 1/2 car lead when a caution flag flew, relegating Chris to 2nd for the single file restart. Unable to match pace with Ashby after the restart, Chris brought the Rose Garden Florist sponsored number 16 to the checkers in second place.
